The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing brilliantly, bursting from the glass with a deep bouquet of cassis, plums and berries, complemented by hints of smoked meats, warm spices and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, velvety and multidimensional, it's layered, concentrated and enveloping, its rich structuring tannins cloaked in an ample core of fruit, concluding with a long and sapid finish.

The 2018 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is very well defined on the nose, which features detailed raspberry, dark cherry and crushed stone aromas; subtle rose petal scents emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fresh and vibrant on the entry. Apricot and marmalade notes appear toward the finish. It does cut away a little swiftly on the aftertaste and as such, like the Griottes-Chambertin, it does not quite match my expectations from barrel.
The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very precise bouquet, almost clinical in style, gradually opening with blackberry, raspberry preserve and crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe black cherry and boysenberry fruit that are framed but wonderfully precise tannins and a pixelated finish that is a pure joy. This may well surpass the 2016 - fabulous.
