Tasting notes
The 2009 Malterdinger Bienenberg Spätburgunder GG Wildesten shows a clear, intense and smoky, very precise bouquet of red and dark cherries, blackberries and liver aromas along with some yellow-fleshed stone fruit aromas. Smooth and silky, this full-bodied, juicy and finesse-full wine is very vital thanks to the vibrant acidity and refreshing mineral and phenolic character. The finish is really powerful and intense. This is another great and perhaps underrated Wildenstein, whose transparency, silkiness, finesse and freshness is outstanding.

Medium intensity, bright purple. A subtle fragrance of cherries, chocolate and spice is enhanced by a gentle smoky scent. On the palate the sweet fruit expression of cherries and raspberries is perfectly complemented by a delightfully juicy acidity. A delicate notion of Belgian chocolate enters into a harmonious balance with a very slight smoky expression. Though still very youthful, the tannins are not aggressive but lend enough support to make the Bienenberg a prospect of elegance and sophistication. (MS)
