The 2017 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru, which comes from the climat of Rugiens-Bas, will be the last vintage for a few years, since Frédéric Barnier felt that the old vines were not reaching their true potential and so they are being replanted. This has an attractive, perfumed, quite floral bouquet, scents of wilted violet petals infusing the red and black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine acidity, nicely weight in the mouth and more density and matière on the finish compared with the La Commaraine. Very fine.

Shows vivid aromas of strawberries and flowers that follow through to a medium to full body with a tight and polished-tannin texture and a long, flavorful finish. This is the last year for this wine for a while, as the vineyard is being replanted. Drink or hold.

The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens (Domaine Louis Jadot) offers up aromas of sweet cherries, espresso roast and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with moderate concentration and chalky structuring tannins.

Cask sample. Very rich, layered nose. Amazing sweetness and charm on the front palate followed up by fine tannins and marked acidity. All the ingredients needed for a long, glorious life? (JR)
