Prunotto's 2012 Barolo Bussia is distractingly sweet, candied, and also lacking in complexity, with only modest depth and pedigree.

The 2012 Barolo Bussia reveals a bright and lively quality of crisp fruit that is characteristic of the Nebbiolo grape. There is good depth and layering here that starts off with dried cherry and cassis, and eventually leads to more ethereal tones of licorice, tar and smokey ash. You feel some of the heat of the vintage in terms of mouthfeel. The wine's texture is solid and tight. There is a touch of sour or bitter cherry on the close that is a little too prominent.
