Score 91/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

The 2021 Portia Prima La Encina, made from Ribera del Duero grapes and was aged for 18 months in new French barrels, shows a medium-ripe profile for a cool year. Aromas of black fruit, ripe plum and field herbs emerge over a woody backdrop. The palate is indulgent, with tense tannins and a noticeable chalky texture. Compact flavors are delivered with a slight bitterness from the oak. Barrel aging shapes the palate.
