Score 93/100 · Drink 2018-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2017

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru la Truffière is initially a little awkward on the nose, but it coalesces in the glass, gaining more intensity and eventually unveiling fine pressed flower scents with a hint of marmalade. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, very focused and poised, saline in the mouth with a brisk, poised and energetic finish, a touch of blackcurrant leaf on the aftertaste. This is a well-crafted and quite compelling wine from J-M Boillot.

Bright lemon-yellow. Very complex scents of musky citrus oil, white peach, flint, menthol and lichee. Enters the mouth suave and fine-grained but surprising mineral grip gives the slowly mounting finish a youthfully austere impression. Less powerful than the Combettes but longer and more saline on the back end. (Lydie Boillot opened a bottle of the 2004 La Truffière and it was full of life, offering fresh aromas of lemon and crushed rock; a pliant but energetic mid-palate, and a sexy hint of underbrush on the finish. She noted that this wine had never really shut down during its life in bottle. I rated it a solid 92, and wished I could have stayed to rink it.)

Very pale, bright yellow. Vibrant aromas of pear, lemon and smoky minerals are lifted by a floral element. Wonderfully rich, silky and harmonious, with a sweetness that comes from the wine's 13.1% natural alcohol (its residual sugar is just one gram per liter, according to Boillot). Harmonious lemony acidity gives this plush wine good thrust.
