Tasting notes
From Gualtallary, Uco Valley, the 2018 Malbec Terroir Series Finca Ambrosia was aged for 18 months in varied use barrels and casks. A dark, dense purple in the glass. The liqueur-like nose offers notes of candy, plum and blackberry jam, country herbs, tobacco and oaky aromas. In the mouth, it’s juicy, intense and broad. The core gains in depth thanks to the precise, accomplished acidity, finely grained tannins and a relaxed complexion. A powerful, nuanced wine bursting with energy.

The 2018 Terroir Series Malbec Finca Ambrosía shows ripe black fruit and soft tannins and some toasted aromas and flavors. I found it unusually ripe and was not surprised to see 15.2% alcohol in the documentation, which coupled with moderate acidity and 3.2 grams of residual sugar gave it an unexpected mellow character. A gentler side of Gualtallary. 23,000 bottles were filled in November 2019.
