The fresh, pure, detailed 2002 Riesling Kabinett Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg reveals nuts and minerals in its aromatics. This light to medium-bodied wine has a lively personality with floral and mineral flavors yet lacks amplitude and depth. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Only at higher levels of residual sugar did any of the youthful 2002 Grunhaus Kabinetts really exhibit enough stuffing and sweetness to balance their acidity. Here we have something attractively lightweight but not spare: refined and subtle, with delicate white peach and blue slate, herbal nuances and lively interplay. Cool, discreet and long. Should improve. 1 star.
