Tasting notes
Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Robert Parker, Aug 2014

Yields in 2013 were a minuscule 29 hectoliters per hectare, and the final blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot represents a small percentage of the total crop. There are no vegetal characteristics in this 2013, the tannins are ripe and well-integrated, and the wine possesses both texture and length, which is unusual for this vintage. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by notes of sweet berry fruit, incense and charcoal. This medium-bodied offering finishes with conviction and purity. Enjoy it over the next decade. For decades, Marquis d’Alesme Becker was a whipping boy in The Wine Advocate, but their 2013 is a legitimate sleeper of the vintage, reflecting the new-found commitment to quality the proprietor, Marjolaine de Conick, has instilled in this once underperforming estate.
