The 2017 Saint-Romain Village is a blend of Les Jarrons and Le Village, matured in around 15% new oak. It has a fresh Williams pear bouquet. The palate is quite concentrated for a Saint-Romain, offering pleasant fatness and a lime and sherbet finish.

Le Jarron and Le Village. Vinified in 500-litre casks and pièces. 20% new. 12 months in barrel on lees, full malo. In tank for its second winter for the wine to stabilise. Bottling will be at the end of winter. Rich lemon and spice. Massive intensity of rich fruit. Full-on flat-out Chardonnay. Jarron gives rich fruit and needed to be tempered with the fruit from the cooler Village, says Haisma. Amazing power and intense acidity, salty and herbal. Very long. Underrated appellation – not usually left long enough on the vine. Spicy and edgy even with all this ripeness. (JH)
