Tasting notes
The top white is the 2016 5V, a blend of the five white varieties Viura, Malvasía, Torrontés, Garnacha Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco, in proportions that change with the conditions of the vintage. The blending abilities of Abel and his wife Maite (who is the oenologist here) are obvious, because this blend is always more than the separate varietals. Because the production method and the aging are the same as for the rest of the whites, this fermented in new French oak barrels and matured in contact with the fine lees for five months. This is powerful, balanced, characterful and recognizable as white Rioja. It has the stuffing and freshness to develop nicely in bottle. 2,612 bottles produced. As with the rest of the whites, it was bottled in March 2017.
