Plums, ripe black cherries, asphalt, graphite, and sappy herb notes all emerge from the 2021 Château Tour Maillet (Lagardère), a medium-bodied, concentrated, structured 2021 that does well in the vintage. It's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle and should drink nicely over the following decade. It's one of the bigger Pomerol in the vintage, yet it stays nicely balanced and is an impressive effort.

The 2021 Tour Maillet still comes across a tad herbaceous on the nose and needs more presence. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins and pretty black cherry fruit laced with soy, leading to a simple but focused, easygoing finish.
The 2021 Tour Maillet is a dense, heady Pomerol. It offers up copious dark fruit, raspberry jam, mocha, licorice and spice, all in a decidedly lush, forward style for the year. The 2021 is not super-complex, but it is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
As during En Primeur, the cloves, tar and smoke of oak is dominating the fruit, and although the cassis and bilberry character is there as things open, they struggle to break through. Vignobles Lagardère, 50% new oak.
