Score 82/100 · Drink 1989-2000, Robert Parker, Jan 1998
De Fieuzal's 1978 has a surprisingly unevolved, even reticent bouquet, some attractive ripe, smoky fruit, medium body, good depth and length, but also plenty of tannin that has yet to melt away. It is deep ruby, with a slightly amber edge. Will the wine's fruit fade before the tannins fall off? Anticipated maturity: Now-2000. Last tasted, 1/89.
