The 2014 Rolland de By is a gorgeous Cru Bourgeois. Dark blue and purplish fruit, tobacco, lavender and menthol meld into a core of dark fruit. Exuberant, racy and super-expressive, the 2014 is one of the under-the-radar gems of the vintage. Drink it over the next decade. Alain Raynaud is the consulting winemaker.

The 2014 Chateau Rolland de By has a lovely nose that is beautifully defined with ample redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit knitted into some quality oak. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, nicely focused but clearly needing a couple of years to fully assimilate the oak on the modern style finish. This is well-crafted and packed full of flavor. Tasted September 2016.
70% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot. Aged 15 months in barrel and tank. Well-defined fruit on the palate, despite a fairly discreet nose. Light body, smooth tannin, very light chew on the finish. Some liquorice notes to give a little complexity. (RH)
Lavender, violets, crème de cassis and mint are all laced together in the 2014 Rollan de By. Silky tannins convey an overall impression of polish and finesse to match the wine's mid-weight personality.
