Aromas of rose petals, red berries, plums and raw cocoa preface the 2020 Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge, a medium to full-bodied, ample and lively wine with supple, powdery tannins and a fleshy core of fruit. It has turned out beautifully.

The 2020 Santenay Clos des Mouches 1er Cru has a vivacious bouquet of red cherry and cranberry fruit plus a subtle floral, wilted-rose-petal aroma. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, ripe red fruit, fine tannins, good focus and gentle grip. There’s just a touch of white pepper on the aftertaste. This is another impressive Santenay from one of the appellation’s best exponents.
Apparently, this is a diverse terroir from the geological perspective. Fine full clear purple. The nose is a little reticent but is as well balanced as the rest of the range. The plot with the most finesse of the 1ers crus chez Moreau. There are some nicely built tannins towards the back but the fruit returns behind. Quality dark raspberries. Very good length. 15-20% whole bunch. Tasted: November 2021
