Tasting notes
From Wiltingen, the 2019 Gottesfuss Alte Reben GG is coolish, precise and lemony on the nose that combines fruit intensity and terroir-driven purity and finesse with spicy notes of flinty slate and lemon rind aromas. It's very complex yet also filigreed and immediately attractive! Pure and crystalline but also perfectly lush and intense, this is a highly elegant and textured Gottesfuss with concentrated yet still crystalline, refined and finely tannic, perfectly juicy roundness. Tasted from AP 2020 in March 2021.

I’m not sure Roman will see this as a compliment, always trying to break the mould, but there is something very traditional on the nose about the delicate fruit of the Gottesfuss, although it’s complemented by more avant-garde aromas of fresh green herbs, representing the influence of spontaneous fermentation. There’s also a suspicion of caramel, which does not materialise on the palate, due to the great substance of mineral and herbal flavours. I would like to think that this is an authentic reflection of terroir. And it’s invigoratingly fresh too. (MS)
