The 1985 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is not the best bottle of old Comtes-Lafon that I have tasted. It begins well enough: quite elegant and pretty defined on the nose with wax resin and honeycomb notes, a light touch of nutmeg. The palate lets the side down - loose-knit and musty, lacking the tension one seeks from a Premier Cru, the finish is smudged and trailing away rapidly. Maybe there are better bottles out there? Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.
