A heady nose of decadently floral, peony-like perfume, fennel pollen, pear, white peach and muskmelon prepares the way for a lusciously fruity, expansive, creamy palate performance billowing with floral notes that persist carpet-like on a prodigious, stone-lined finish. A palpable impression of extract-richness is allied to alcoholic levity and an uncanny sense of sheer force, all features that no doubt reflect the unique genetics and stamina of these more than 120-year-old vines.

The 2015 Saar Riesling (Wiltinger) Gottesfuss Alte Reben is super pure, fresh and flinty on the nose, but also very fine in its perfectly ripe and concentrated Riesling flavors. Full-bodied, dense and rich, this is a very intense and concentrated Gottesfuss with a lot of power in the finish, but also a crystalline elegance and finesse. I suppose this wine has an excellent aging potential, but it still needs to reduce its power.
