Just mid ruby with orange rim. Garden herbs and a little bit of forest floor. Still a little closed on the fruit. Amazingly fine yet juicy palate. Effortless lightness of style with fine and long fruit and grainy tannins. (WS)

Sweet red cherries, kirsch, red plums, mint, iron, cinnamon and hard candy are some of the notes that emerge from the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Fornace. Sweet, supple and perfumed, the 2010 is decidedly racy and intense, with gorgeous mid-palate depth and fabulous overall balance. The style is overt and racy, but with plenty of underlying structure and aromatic intrigue. Iron, smoke and blood are some of the many notes that are laced into the distinctly ferrous, savory finish.

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Fornace is a beautiful expression with an impressive level of confidence and individuality. The wine's color is a bit darker compared to its peers and its concentration is similarly thicker. But that extra padding does not take away from the inner elegance and finesse displayed here. Aromas embrace red rose petal, licorice, grilled herb and forest floor. The oak rendering is evident but not obvious: Dark smoke, crushed granite and ash give the wine a savory side. Its evolutionary track has no place to go but forward and the wine won't reach its drinking window for another three to five years.

Mid ruby with broad orange-tinged rim. Gorgeous dense and ripe nose with layers of fruit, herbs and a hint of tar. Firm tannic palate with a full spread of fruit that is still tight, but full of promise. (WS)
