Tasting notes
Deep magenta. Powerful, spice- and mineral-accented cherry and dark berry aromas show very good clarity and pick up smoky bacon and potpourri flourishes as the wine opens up. In a concentrated but lively style, offering appealingly sweet red and dark fruit and floral pastille flavors and a salty olive flourish. The floral and spice notes drive an impressively long finish that's framed by fine-grained, harmonious tannins. From vines in Malleval.

A step up, the 2017 Saint Joseph offers another level of class and purity. Beautiful blackberry, black raspberries, cured meats, and pepper notes give way to a medium to full-bodied Saint Joseph that has subtle oak, a seamless texture, and fine tannins. It’s going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age.
This has a very strong, savory edge and thereâs wet stone, coal smoke and oyster shell, as well as iodine. The black fruit is subdued by the granite here. The palate has a very compressed feel, vibrantly grippy in this young mode and very fresh, too. This will deliver in six to eight years.
From granitic soils at the northern end of Saint Joseph, the 2017 Saint Joseph reveals scents of smoke, crushed stone and black olives. Medium to full-bodied, it's nicely concentrated and ripe, with fine-grained tannins lingering in a dusty manner on the long finish.
