The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières was showing some reduction on the nose, making it difficult to read during my visit. The medium-bodied palate features sappy black fruit tinged with wild mint, moderate weight, and hints of licorice toward the finish. Not bad, but I find its exotic elements just a little distracting.

The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Lavières displays an alluring and deeper-pitched bouquet of blackberries, dark chocolate, espresso roast and grilled meats. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample but reserved, with good depth and dimension at the youthfully tight-knit core, tangy acids and a chalky finish. I suspect this will have become more gourmand by the time it's bottled.
Only sold in the UK and Hong Kong markets because so little is produced. Tiny village lieu-dit on Vosne side. Two 228-litre barrels per year. Peppery freshness on the nose. So beautifully scented. Gloriously fragrant and utterly silky with just a tiny hint of oaky char on the finish. (JH)

Since its rebirth in 2000, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has quickly become one of the most highly sought-after producers in Vosne-Romanée. The most prized wine from the estate is their monopole Grand Cru La Romanée.
