Tasting notes
TA 6.1 g/l, RS 3.2 g/l. Pale lemon. Deep, rich nose with creamy mirabelle and greengage, a hint of nutty, lentil character and an elderflower lift – surprisingly aromatic for this often quite neutral, minerally grape variety. Some fruit sweetness on the palate entry, with a spiciness suggestive of a little botrytis. White pepper enlivens the palate, which carries more greengage and some pear. Pretty long, spicy finish. This is characterful and appealing. (TJ)

The 2019 Retzstadt Silvaner Himmelspfad GG is based on small, selected berries that were pressed for a day and whose must was vinified in a 1,200-liter oak vat for nine months. The nose shows a lovely pure, precise and subtle bouquet with iron limestone notes as well as aromas of wild strawberries and ripe pink pears. Full-bodied, intense and very elegant on the palate, this is a rich yet refined and persistently salty Sylvaner with structure, grip and aging potential. This is an impressive Sylvaner today, but it will gain complexity and terroir character in three to four years from now. Tasted in March 2021.
AP number 11 20. So opulent and ripe! Easy to like now. Earthy and saline. Long and pure. Contained and no rough edges. Very lightly smoky. So complete! So long … (JR)
