Score 88/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2019

The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino (with 35,000 bottles produced) offers an extra layer of dark cherry ripeness that comes as a very pleasant surprise in what was a cool vintage. That fruit ripeness comes from careful vineyard management in a vintage like 2014. Plummy notes are followed by summer cherry, spice and potting soil. There is a vinous, almost raw quality to the primary fruit that underlines the youth of this wine. But I also found it to be a bit sticky and heavy on the palate. This wine needs another year or two to find focus.

Mid ruby with orange tinges. A mixture of candied fruit and marasca cherry on the nose. Sweet and ripe with stewed-fruit notes. A desperate effort to achieve ripe grapes? (WS)

A juicy and straightforward red with dark-berry, plum and spice character. Medium body, firm and fine tannins and a savory finish. No sense in waiting. Drink now.
