70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre. 80% destemmed, all fermented in concrete vats. Matured for 20 to 24 months in concrete vat. Light purple. Rich and ripe – purple, exotically floral fruits and impressively juicy. Quite a bit of acidity and some fresh tannins but an attractive package. Just a little dry on the end. (JR)

The 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Les Vieilles Vignes is a competent-looking effort that offers up notions of kirsch, violets, leather and spring flowers in a medium-bodied, forward, slightly simple style. Made from 70% Grenache, 16% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette, it has the juicy acidity of the vintage and should be consumed in its youth.
