Tasting notes
Musky scents of iris and narcissus mingle with pungency of lime peel and struck flint on a striking nose. The palate’s glossy feel offers a pleasing contrast to citrus seed piquancy and smoky mineral accents. There’s less of the winsome polish and juiciness here than in the corresponding village-level wine displayed, but there isn’t a bit of heaviness, and the finish offers impressive sheer grip. Give this one time.

Some meaty, savory aromas here with praline and baked biscuits, leading to a very fresh and succulent palate that has a smooth core of apple-pie flavor and a pastry-crusted finish. Drink now.
Cask sample. The Ölberg has mastered the art of gentle Riesling persuasion. A fresh minty breeze wafts across the senses and dainty nuances of oregano and marjoram tantalise the tastebuds. The fine lees have done a wonderful job for the creamy complexion, the taste is crossed with delicate hints of yellow fruit and the merest sprinkling of chalky minerality. (MS)
