Tasting notes
Deep ruby. Exotic aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cola, sandalwood, violet and smoky minerals. Lush, creamy dark berry compote flavors are enlivened by graphite and cracked pepper, with slow-building floral pastille and Indian spice notes. Tannins come up slowly on the broad, sweet, impressively persistent finish. You could drink this rich but energetic wine now but Chave thinks that another six to eight years of patience will be rewarded.

Inky purple. An expressive bouquet evokes dark berries, cola, graphite, pipe tobacco and violet oil. The fresh palate offers flavors of tangy red and dark berry preserves, violet pastille, vanilla and roasted coffee. Supple tannins add structure to the seductively sweet fruit and fade away on the lengthy finish. I'll bet that this will drink well young. Chave's Hermitage holdings are in Baume and Peleat.
