Similarly deeper ruby-hued, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Quartz (80% Grenache and 20% Syrah) has an upfront, Provençal perfume of spiced black cherries, raspberries, sappy flowers, and spice, with a kiss of background minerality. It too is medium to full-bodied, has a supple, elegant, vibrant mouthfeel, integrated tannins, and a great finish.
An exquisite wine and one of the greatest examples of the vintage that I encountered during my journey in the region, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz exhales a deep, powerful bouquet of lilac, dark cherries, garrigue, dark wild berries, lead pencil and flowers. It's full-bodied, pure and crystalline, with a deep, multidimensional core of fruit, vibrant acids and a long, sappy finish. This blend of 80% Grenache Noir and 20% Syrah, crafted from vines planted on sandy soils in the parcel of Les Cassanets, is a strong candidate for the wine of the vintage.
80% Grenache, 20% Syrah. Vinified in truncated tanks. Aged in demi-muids (80%) and old oak barrels (20%). Certified organic and biodynamic. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Very intense nose of spice, kirsch, liquorice and garrigue with smoked meat. Very expressive palate as well – great, fresh acidity keeps it going and is supported by wonderfully fine tannins that are supple and really elegant. Delicious, meaty and savoury style. (AC)
