Tasting notes
The 2020 Syrah has notes of ripe berry fruit and a spicy twist, and is not too varietal in my book. It's fruit-driven, straightforward and ripe at 14.8% alcohol, with a round and lush mouthfeel, where the toasty and smoky notes make a comeback. It fermented with selected yeasts and matured in 225- and 500-liter new and used French and American oak barrels for nine months. 2,438 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022.

About the producer

A joint project from British entrepreneur Howard Bilton and Australian winemaker David Baverstock, Howard’s Folly is a boutique wine producer in the Alentejo. Working with old vines and indigenous grapes largely in the cooler Portalegre, they craft fresh and modern expressions of the region.
