The 2000 Haut-Condissas has a very different bouquet compared to the first three vintages. This is quite Saint-Julien-like in style with perfumed black fruit mixed with undergrowth and later, subtle scents of wild mint and juniper. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, more masculine than the 1999 but with greater freshness. Although the techniques are quite modern by comparison, this millennial is stylistically classic with Médocain reserve on the finish. Excellent. Tasted at the Haut-Condissas vertical at the property.

The dense ruby/purple-colored 2000 possesses notes of camphor, spice box, cedar, black currants, and new oak, plenty of depth, moderate tannin, and a long finish. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 7-8 years.

This is the tete de cuvee of Roland de By. Along with astringent dominant tannin, this inky, opaque purple-colored 2000 exhibits plenty of black cherry and cassis fruit, medium to full body, excellent concentration, and serious intensity and structure. However, the tannin may be a problem. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015.

Full medium ruby. Superripe, jammy aromas of black raspberry, blackcurrant liqueur, bitter chocolate, espresso, licorice and spicy oak. Fat, sweet and smooth, with noteworthy density. Finishes with substantial, chocolatey tannins that hit the palate quite late, giving the berry and torrefaction flavors time to linger. A second sample seemed more heavily extracted, and finished with slightly disjointed acids and tannins.
