Pale, bright yellow. Pungent cool scents of lime blossom, licorice, crushed stone, fresh herbs and menthol. Then a bit sweeter in the mouth than the nose suggests but with a slight warmth to the flavors of stone fruits, pear and white pepper. There's something a little rough about the texture of this wine, even a faint suggestion of rawness, and the sweetness seems a bit out of whack. Will this harmonize in the bottle? Not a great showing today, even if it shows decent length.

Mango and pineapple fruit – a big shift from their Beaune du Château, with better integration of oak, and long layers of flavour on the finish. Rich, bold and expressive with the concentration to last years. (RH)

The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Clos Saint-Landry Blanc, a monopole belonging to Bouchard, has an expressive yellow flower and nectarine-scented bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate is fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, just a hint of edginess here thanks to the wise decision to pick this first. Brimming with tension and terroir expression, I would highly recommend this white Beaune.

(this fruit and the Blanc du Château vines were picked on September 23, the first day of the harvest of Côte de Beaune whites at Bouchard): Bright, light yellow. Focused nose offers scents of apricot, spices, white pepper, herbs and anise. Then much suppler in the mouth than the Beaune Blanc du Château; fatter and sweeter too. (These two wines finished with around four grams per liter of acidity, according to Weber). Finishes with good breadth and subtle persistence.
