Tasting notes
The 2017 Il Chiuso, 100% Pinot Noir, shows the natural exuberance of the year in its ripe, fleshy personality. Sweet dark cherry and plum fruit, along with soft contours, give the wine much of its personality. The warm, dry growing season pushed ripeness to the edge and baked out some of the varietal character.

The 2017 Pinot Nero di Toscana Il Chiuso reminds me of Pinot Noir made in warm climates such as California. This was a record year in terms of heat and drought, and those adverse conditions have impacted this very delicate grape variety. Ripe notes of cassis and blackcurrant are followed by spice, tar and smoke. There are robust floral and fruity notes that peek through the wine's dense fruity fiber.
