Tasting notes
Inky purple. Intense, smoke-tinged blackberry and cassis on the nose, with deeper notes of licorice and espresso adding complexity. Sweet, broad and densely packed, with velvety flavors of blackcurrant and blackberry and peppery spices in the background. Closes with excellent clarity, smooth tannins and a suave, very persistent floral pastille quality.

Old vines, hand harvested. One-month maceration. Oak barrels for 20 months (50% new, 50% one to two years old). Deep black cherry colour, a bit smudgy from the journey (sent by post and had only eight hours to settle). Ripe dark plums/damsons and exotic spice with a firm blanket of ripe tannin. A lovely dark density and savouriness on the finish, showing that granite soil. Unexpected freshness at the very end. (JH)
