Score 92/100 · Drink 2026-2038, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2024

Based on 100% Merlot raised in 80% new wood, the 2021 Lynsolence has a slightly modern, well-oaked style, yet it nevertheless holds onto a terrific sense of minerality and classic Saint-Emilion character. Cassis, graphite, black cherries, chalky, and spicy oak all give way to a medium-bodied, concentrated, nicely structured Saint-Emilion that has ripe tannins as well as terrific mid-palate depth. There's tons to love here, and I would ideally give bottles 2-4 years in the cellar, and it should evolve nicely for at least a decade.

The 2021 Lynsolence still lacks some delineation and focus on the nose, although it does fortunately cohere in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight chewiness on the entry, but it is fresher than the barrel sample at primeur, and there is a touch more bite on the lactic, dark chocolate-tinged finish—hence my higher score.

The 2021 Lynsolence is a dark, potent Saint-Émilion. It offers up copious blue fruit, blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha. This sumptuous, racy wine has plenty to offer in a decidedly forward, lush style. Give the tannins some time to soften.

The 2021 Lynsolence feels a bit muddled and lacks delineation on the nose. The palate is marked by firm tannins, grippy with some coarseness towards the slightly metallic finish. I was hoping for a better showing. Tasted twice.
