Score 86/100 · Drink 2016-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. The 1937 Latour-à-Pomerol, a Belgian bottling by Robbes van der Hoogen, had that common trait of chlorine/disused swimming pool on the nose that dissipates with modest aeration, revealing ferrous red fruit, girolles and terracotta aromas underneath. The palate is still pleasant to drink. Yes it is rustic and big-boned, perhaps with some Malbec here, but quite citric and fresh with impressive density. It lumbers across the senses rather than glides, but you are not going to begrudge that for a 78-year-old Pomerol. Unlike the 1945, it remained pleasurable for 10-15 minutes. Tasted December 2015.

The 1937 Latour-à-Pomerol, bottled by "Robbes van der Hoogen" in Belgium, has a chlorine/disused swimming pool tincture on the nose that ebbs with aeration in the glass to reveal ferrous red fruit, terracotta and chanterelle scents. The palate continues to offer pleasure, admittedly big-boned and evidencing some use of Malbec. The 1937 is impressive in terms of density and freshness. There is a lumbering quality to this Pomerol and it's certainly a far cry from finesse, yet that is a trait I've found in the few prewar bottles I have tasted. It shows well for about a quarter of an hour before declining. Tasted at the Latour à Pomerol dinner at Taillevent in London.
