The 2001 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Véroilles is a wine that I had not tasted in some 12 years. It testified to how well some wines in this overlooked vintage have aged. The aromatics are open and detailed - leafy red berry fruit interlaced with cold stony scents. The palate is not the most concentrated that you will find, but it is redeemed by well judged acidity and a lightness of touch that renders it fresh and tensile. It is a wine that is not going to improve with continued bottle age, however, it has fulfilled its raison d'être and is just a delicious Chambolle-Musigny that you will finish too quickly. Tasted September 2015.

Good full red. Explosive nose combines dark berries, flowers, stone, gunflint and underbrush. Then thick and sappy in the mouth, with sweet, broad flavors that saturate the palate. Finishes with horizontal, dusty but firm tannins and excellent length.
Cask sample. Quite exciting scent. Quite rich and nerveux. Lively fruit covers tannins. (JR)
