Reductive, rubbery nose with lots of spice. Tangy and light on the palate. A little wild and under-cooked, for me. You can see the cheekbones a little too obviously. (RH)

100% Garnacha. A small plot in Villanueva de Ávila from the western Alberche Valley. Planted 70 years ago at an elevation of 1,100 m facing north. Aged in wooden foudre for 14 months. 874 bottles. Tasted blind. Reduction. A wine that needs time . Complex profile with a touch of pepper and hints of farmyard. Fluid, delicate, the palate has a fabulous construction, with great finesse and lots of chalkiness. Light tannin. (FC)
There is finesse in the 2019 La Breña; it has a subtle nose that reminds me of Umbrías. It was harvested late, the 2nd of October, and this year it matured exclusively in an oak vat (in previous years there was some concrete) and the wine had a longer élevage, which suits both the character of the place and the more tannic style of the vintage. It's ripe with 15% alcohol and has abundant grainy tannins reminiscent of the granite soils. 1,579 bottles and 96 magnums were filled in June 2021.
