Full bottle 1,324 g. From a walled plot just below the village. Old Grenache vines in a relatively cool, windy site. Transparent garnet. Heady, complex nose. Really deep-flavoured with a very sweet start, some tannins and a slightly salty finish. Long and luscious but relatively potent. No sign of excess drought, however. Should be delightful with tonight's sausages. And indeed it was. There's lots of get your teeth into here, with the interesting fruit definitely trumping the tannins. (JR)

The 2020 Gigondas Clos Des Tourelles should be a step up. Medium to full-bodied, pure, and remarkably well-balanced, it has a terrific mix of red and almost blue fruits as well as peppery herbs and flowers. Already complex and nuanced, yet concentrated and rich, it’s a serious effort from the Perrin family that’s going to have 15+ years of overall longevity.

From 10 ha in Gigondas, 85% Grenache, plus Syrah. North-west facing . Limestone and sandy soils and old vines – the only clos in Gigondas. Hand-picked, whole bunches, indigenous yeasts. Aged in oak foudres for 18 months, no filtration.  Cask sample. Mid crimson. Has the garrigue and gently floral aroma of the L'Argnée Gigondas 2020. A little bit toasty too. Deliciously scented. Firm and serious on the palate. Finely dry tannins. A restrained style compared with the Famille Perrin La Gille Gigondas 2020. (JH)
