Score 92/100 · Drink 2026-2038, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

A blend of 54% Merlot and 46% Cabernet Franc aged 16-18 months in 27% second-fill barrels, the 2023 Château Canon Croix Canon is the second wine of Canon, though it comes from a specific parcel not far from Teyssier and Angelus, certainly not a bad terroir. Ripe red and black fruits, graphite, leather, and floral notes all emerge on the nose, and it shows some classic upper plateau limestone character. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has ripe, polished tannins, good overall balance, and a great finish. Drink this solid effort over the coming 10-12 years. Drink 2026-2038.

The 2023 Croix Canon is rich, fleshy and super expressive right out of the gate. Vibrant red-toned fruit, orange peel, chalk and mint are so alive in the glass. Polished tannins add to an impression of finesse. Croix Canon overdelivers big time. Tasted three times.

The 2023 Croix Canon offers light blackberry and cranberry fruit laced with tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, not particularly complex vis-à-vis other vintages, though it carries adequate freshness on the finish. Fine.

Fresh and perfumed, with juicy aromas of red and black cherries, plums, berries and hints of minerals, violets and cocoa powder. Precise and crunchy, with a medium body and firm, fresh tannins. Long, tense and beautifully balanced. 54% merlot and 46% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.
