Tasting notes
70% Roussanne, 15% Grenache Blanc and 15% Clairette. Aged for 12 months, 50% in old barriques, 30% in concrete tanks and 20% in new barriques. Tasted blind. A lovely nose that has almond, hazelnuts and stone fruits. Super-rounded palate with texture, weight and superb concentration of fruit. A sense of fresh minerality gives energy and vibrancy and the palate finishes with a subtle toastiness. Very appealing, opulent and balanced throughout. (AC)

Brought up in 20% new demi-muids, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Prestige Blanc comes from a single parcel of old vine Roussanne blended with 15% each Grenache Blanc and Clairette. Ripe quince, honeyed peach, toasted spice, white flowers, and green almond notes all define the aromatics, and it's full-bodied, with a layered, ripe, concentrated style, good acidity, and a fabulous finish. I don't see this making terribly old bones, but it's a sensational, rich, opulent white that has a beautiful sense of freshness and purity.
With an oxidative, very ripe profile, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Prestige exhales aromas of caramel, oak, ripe white fruits and overripe orchard fruits. Full-bodied, muscular and dense, it's rich and spicy with a heavy finish, lacking vibrancy and dynamism. This blend of 70% Roussanne, 15% Grenache Blanc and 15% Clairette matured for 12 months in 20% new barrels, 50% used barrels and 30% concrete tanks. I must confess that the solar, oxidative character is somewhat disturbing and, in my view, not beneficial for aging potential.
The 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Prestige is bold, powerful and forward. Checking in at 14.9% alcohol, it launches with pronounced honeysuckle, ripe pear, vanilla, lemon flesh and white peach aromas. Golden apple notes add another layer. Full of density and character, the 2023 closes with a gentle phenolic grip on the long finish.
