Score 87/100 · Drink 2025-2034, Neal Martin, Jan 2024

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru was relatively less impacted by the frost, though there was still a "demi-récolte" . It has a clean, fresh, malic nose that does not quite have the complexity of the previous vintage. The palate is balanced with orange rind and sour lemon notes, but it loses a little energy and zip towards the austere finish.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles is quite tightly wound out of the gates, offering up aromas of white flowers, pear, orange oil, toasted nuts and iodine, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate. It's a success that will reward some bottle age.
