Score 93/100 · Drink 2020-2027, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Apr 2023

The very expressive and pungently varietal 2017 EQ Cool Climate Syrah has notes of bacon fat, black olives and herbs, reflecting a warm and dry year with 14.5% alcohol and a medium to full-bodied palate. It fermented with some full clusters and indigenous yeasts and was transferred into 225-liter barrels for malolactic fermentation and 18 months' élevage. It's full-bodied and lush, with ripe tannins. 2,000 bottles were filled in December 2020.

The 2017 Syarh EQ Cool Climate from San Antonio spent 18 months in French barrels, 25% of them new. Purple in color. The lovely, complex nose features blueberry, raspberry and hints of flesh and black pepper over refined woody aromas. Creamy on the palate with moderate freshness and a loose, flavorful complexion, as the name indicates, this is a well-made Syrah from a cool climate.
