Tasting notes
Tasted from vat, the Caiarossa 2018 Pergolaia is mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This wine opens to a mid-weight approach and a bright bouquet colored by notes of cherry, wild plum, tilled earth and pressed violet or blue flower. The wine wraps over the palate with delicate, silky intensity.

Sangiovese with tiny proportions of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Deep ruby. Cool red- and dark-fruit nose with hints of mace. The coolness on the nose continues on the palate with crushed dark and red fruit with soft, bitter tannins. Clearly from a cool year and normally, this has more concentration, depth, complexity and potential, but this is elegant. More medium- than full-bodied and it’s an extremely attractive wine. (WS)
