The 2018 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon has a more open bouquet than it did out of barrel, offering brambly red fruit, undergrowth and light gravelly scents. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly raw tannins on the entry and good acidity. A rather angular Pastourelle that will benefit from a couple of years in bottle to round out its edges. [This will not be released for three or four years, by which time I think it will be more melded together.]

The 2018 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is a pretty, fruity wine loaded with near and medium-term appeal. Juicy dark cherry, red plum, spice, leather and licorice are front and center. The Merlot-based Pastourelle is released a few years after the vintage, when the winemaking team believes it is ready to drink.

The 2018 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is composed of 61% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it rapidly unfolds in the glass, revealing notions of tilled soil, fallen leaves, charcoal and sautéed herbs over a core of redcurrant jelly and plum preserves, plus a waft of lavender. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers compelling tension with chewy tannins and loads of savory layers on the finish.
