Score 90/100 · Drink 2025-2035, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Mar 2025

The 2022 Clos St. Martin is a ripe, jammy, somewhat Napa-styled red redolent of blueberry preserve, figs and sweet, toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and polished, it will appeal to readers looking for sweet, fruit-forward wines.

A blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Clos Saint-Martin is massive and deeply layered, with dense black fruits, truffle, chocolate, crushed stone, and floral notes. Full-bodied and powerful, it has great freshness, fine tannins, and remarkable purity. Aged for 20 months in 60% new oak barrels and 40% amphorae, this structured and mineral-driven wine will need time but should evolve gracefully for 30+ years. Total production: 416 cases.

The 2022 Clos Saint-Martin has a quite lush and oaky bouquet that's perhaps modern in style, yet there is extremely pure fruit tucked in beneath that veneer of new wood. The palate is very well balanced with fleshy ripe tannins, gentle grip and hints of mocha toward the dark chocolate-tinged finish. The new oak is tangible yet simpatico with the fruit. It deserves four or five years to fully integrate, but this will become a fine Saint-Émilion.

Deep and complex with a touch of olives, white pepper and charcoal to the fruit of ripe but fresh blackberries, sweet plums and a touch of licorice. The tight-grained tannins give it real structure and fine-boned gravity. This is compact, focused and long. Needs some time to soften. Drink from 2028.
