The deeply hued 2021 Clos Margalaine (50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) offers an impressive, medium-bodied, lengthy style that does well in the vintage, as well as offering some textbook Margaux character. Darker berries, cassis, crushed stone, and hints of graphite define the bouquet, and this elegant, balanced 2021 has good mid-palate density, terrific purity, and outstanding length. The élevage here is one-third new oak, with a mix in tank, where it should stay for 12 months.

The 2021 Clos Margalaine has a fragrant incense- and potpourri-tinged bouquet of adequate black cherry and bilberry fruit. It’s medium-bodied with chewy tannins and a little hard on the midpalate, and then its grinds to an abrupt halt on the finish. Rather hard going. A second bottle was more pliant, though it still lacked some grace on the finish.
The 2021 Clos Margalaine is relatively laid back in this vintage, but that's not bad, especially if it fills out a bit more with élevage. Red/purplish fruit, lavender and spice shows lovely brightness as well as energy. It will be interesting to see if the fruit emerges fully. Today, the 2021 feels pinched.
Offering up aromas of sweet red berries, plums and creamy new oak, the 2021 Clos Margalaine is medium-bodied, bitter and astringent. It's the second wine of Marojallia.
