Tasting notes
The 2022 Haut-Médoc de Giscours has turned out very nicely, offering up aromas of sweet cassis, wild berries and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, suave and vibrant palate with good depth and persistence. Bottled in March-April 2024, this cuvée sees a reductive élevage that preserves all its fruit intact in the bottle.

Black cherries, new leather, leafy herbs, and some spicy, graphite-like notes all emerge from the 2022 Château Giscours Haut Médoc, a terrific Haut-Médoc from this estate with a pure, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It would make one hell of a house red and should have a solid decade of longevity. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc.
The 2022 Haut-Médoc Giscours presents a conservative yet well-defined nose with blackberry, graphite and light tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and dense black fruit tones, but a nagging vegetal streak appears toward the finish that I never picked up on out of barrel. I will not judge this for now.
A fruit-expressive Haut-Medoc with ripe, fresh and bright red berries from this dry and hot vintage. Generous and medium-bodied on the palate, showing lovely fluidity and firmness without any heaviness. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 39% merlot and 6% cabernet franc. Already appealing but better in two more years. Drink from 2027.
