70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot. Cru bourgeois that won a medal in Paris in 2017 and earned a score of 17 from Richard in last year's crus bourgeois tasting. Mid crimson. There is real substance and intensity here on the nose – quite a step up. Serious wine that could stand its own with some lesser classed growths. Well bought! Not sure I can be quite as generous as 17 but it's definitely worthy of 16.5 and is VGV . No great hurry to drink this well-constituted, dry but not drying wine. (JR)

The 2015 Bournac is medium garnet-purple colored with a nose of red and black plums with earth and herb notions. The light to medium-bodied palate delicate and uncomplicated with firm, chewy tannins.

A Cabernet Sauvignon-based effort (there’s roughly 30% Merlot in the blend), the 2015 Château Bournac is another fine effort looked after by Michel Rolland. A medium to full-bodied, impressively concentrated, balanced red, with lots of tobacco leaf, smoked earth and chocolate aromas and flavors, it’s ideal for drinking over the coming 7-8 years. Tasted twice.

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot. Ripe black fruit, a touch of smoke and also attractive granitic flavours. Firm tannin to finish, counterbalanced by fine acidic line. Has the ambition and constitution that outweighs its humble appellation – and it needs bottle age as a consequence. (RH)
