Tasting notes
On the market now, the Francesco Versio 2021 Barbaresco represents a blend of fruit from four sites: San Cristoforo, Currà, Starderi and Albesani. These cru expressions are fermented separately and blended once they go into oak. The wine delivers a heavier tannic imprint that gives it a structured personality that bodes well for bottle aging. The vintage is complete with a fruity side that delves into black plum and cherry along with some pretty mineral definition and spice. We can expect an exciting future for this well-priced wine.

The 2021 Barbaresco is a potent, tightly wound wine. Dried cherry, tobacco, spice, menthol, licorice and dried flowers struggle to open. I have tasted the 2021 twice and found it disjointed on both occasions, with aggressive tannins and little of the balance of the best years.
