Transparent crimson. Nicely pure, soaring aromas. Well-focused structure with ripe but not overripe fruit and a certain freshness and length on the palate. Very accomplished. I hope to taste more of Florence and Simon’s wines at other tastings. Quite forward. GV (JR)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is from a mix of vineyards toward the east of the village; the vines are up to 60 years old. It displays red fruit on the nose, which is a little loose-knit at the moment and features raspberry and crushed strawberry scents, the whole bunch (50%) not quite as discernible as on the Clos Village. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, just missing a little midpalate depth, and the finish is slightly austere. Maybe it’s going through an awkward stage.
Cask sample. A lovely blend of perfume and dark fruit. Floral-tinged palate with firm tannins and an abundance of fruit. Nicely put together and feels very unforced in style. (AC)
Blend of different plots with vines over 50 years of age. 50% whole bunches. 25% new oak. Milk-chocolate touch brings sweetness to dried herb, fresh earth and blackberry. Intense, spicy and chewy palate. I’d like just a hint more acidity here, though there is plenty of depth. (TJ)
