Tasting notes
Aged 18 months in 80% new French oak, the 2019 Alpha M offers a red-fruited and spice-driven nose accented with dried tobacco and a touch of toasted wood. It reflects the warmer harvest on the palate, with an assertive but balanced texture that transitions to a structured, drying and slightly introverted finish. Readers looking to enjoy this in the near future would do well to let it open up for a good hour or so before consuming.

80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. RS 3.49 g/l. Significantly fresher and more lifted acid than the rest of the Montes portfolio with a bright passion-fruit lift to the cassis. The tannins are high, round and drying. Pyrazines are elegant and cedary oak is really well integrated for how young this is. Finish is long… this is nowhere near ready to drink. Despite rich fruit not usually being my go-to, I love this wine and very much hope I'll get to taste it again later in its life. (SCJ)
